Natal Moon in the 3rd House

Having the Moon in the house of communication creates a very receptive mind, capable of absorbing large quantities of information. Thus, such a native can amass a huge load of data among many subjects, picking up new languages, even providing a talent for imitating other people’s voices and images. The Moon helps a lot in reflecting and re-projecting external patterns, and when in aspect with planets responsible for art, then this placement can produce great artists. The same applies if a stellium of planets is found near the Moon, and whatever the nature of these planets, the native will tend to participate in some manual activities. This could be from sculptor to car mechanics, but this will definitely give them some abilities and even accuracy in doing anything with their hands.

The Moon in the 3rd house usually brings sensitivities in whatever is connected with communication. The native infuse a lot of emotion in them, and the hastiness of the Moon can bring frequent changes in opinions, ideas and even towards people with whom the communication flows. As this house is also responsible for short trips, one will indulge in frequent weekend journeys in nearby places. This placement can make someone taking care of a country-house nearby his house, having his days-off spent there and usually taking care of a garden as well. If the Moon is very close to the end of the house, the country-house might come from his mother or her lineage. If the Moon is in Taurus or other fertile sign then it is frequent that agriculture and garden activities are not only present as a hobby but even as a way of life.

In case someone follows an artistic path, the Moon brings a lot of emotion to his works too. The artist will tend to be romantic, giving mellow characteristics to his art. The atmosphere present is usually dreamy, and all types of emotions are usually inspirative for the native. An external observer will be able to recognize what type of emotions the artist with the Moon in the 3rd house tries to describe in their creations, and their works can be really influential to the audience as they can bring out archetypes of the collective subconscious. They have exceptional psychological insights, managing to depict other people’s feelings through their creations too.

The third house traditionally governs siblings too. Such a person can have a brother or sister that is a Cancer or has otherwise a strong Moon in his natal chart (near the Ascendant, inside of the first house or in other important positions of his chart). Usually, the siblings are very emotional, passing this sensitivity to the chart’s owner too. Also, another characteristic it gives is natural curiosity, which can lead to investing a lot of time in reading books, studying or expanding their horizons with different subjects and crafts. Nevertheless, higher education is excluded from that, as it is represented by the ninth house which lays opposite to this one. If both houses contain planets, their energies are polarized, which leads quite often to differences between the middle-level studies and the higher ones. This can even be beneficial, as the native can create a unique combination of different types of knowledge, sometimes leading to their mixture in a totally new and quite personal blend. The opposition of the third house Moon with important planets in the ninth house always brings internal contradictions; there can even be dilemmas for choosing a place where to live (e.g.: abroad or in his birthplace).

The neighbors are also ruled by the third house, so a Moon in the 3rd house brings frequent visits from them. The “popping in for coffee” pattern can be widely observed, and the placement also promotes the organization of barbecue type events. Neighbors can even be seen as a part of the family and the native’s house is becoming a lair for other people to spend some time. The Moon, as the planet mostly responsible for cooking, will enhance these meetings with the offering of food and drinks, creating a shiny atmosphere.

One thing such a native with the Moon in the 3rd house should concentrate on is to tame his mood while communicating. The Moon gives some instability due to its fast movement, and feelings can easily over-flood the words said, as well as the reception of others’ words. Such a native should consciously examine his expressions, to understand how the Moon and its phases can influence them, and by being a little bit more careful, he can stabilize this flow that is not easily controlled as it touches parts of the psyche. Also, daydreaming might be wonderful but touching the ground once in a while should become for them a priority. Indeed, it can only enhance the ability to daydream, as the native will not risk getting lost in his (usually romantic) fantasies.

Another pattern that can appear is that the native with the Moon in the 3rd house acts like a maternal figure to a younger sibling, or he is himself the younger one who is raised up like this. The bond is strong between the two of them, long-lasting and granting a lot of care, especially when combined with other good aspects. Also, as the third house governs transportation, the native usually owns a vehicle, to which he also gets emotionally attached. Nevertheless, it is frequent to replace them since the Moon is definitely the planet that governs instability. Such natives also prefer when the TV or radio is on, since they enjoy the frequent flow of information in their life, even as a background noise. They feel quite comfortable when they are surrounded by observable flows. In case the third house Moon is placed in a water sign, there is no better self-healing than relaxing near a river or the sea, and listening to the water sounds cleaning out all the unnecessary pieces of information that they absorbed. Thus, the native should use such places as meditation spots, and ideally, there would be some near his residence, allowing him some frequent quick walks or drives to relax.

I’m in love with your articles. so on point

Nailed it! Moon in Cancer 3rd house, and I love gardening, am a bookworm, do have an older sibling who acted as the “mother hen,” love writing, and absolutely am relaxed and refreshed by any type of water and water sounds. In my old neighborhood, I was known for hosting a potluck every Saturday night for anywhere between 6 to 10 people; and I so love to cook for my family and friends. I was very attached to one vehicle I drove for 20 years, and named her Bessie. I still have her, though she is now semi-retired. I have Venus in 9th house, Aquarius, and combined with my Moon placement and my Gemini AC…let’s say I’m the person to have on your Trivial Pursuit team. I used to keep the radio or Tv on all the time, though I’ve broken myself of that habit, mostly. Wow! Well done!
