Natal Sun in Leo

When a person has his natal Sun in Leo, it means that he belongs to the zodiac sign of Leo. Leo is the fifth sign of the zodiac and has the Sun as its ruling celestial body. Thus, the Sun here is dignified and operates in full potency. The period of Leo starts on the 22nd of July and lasts until the 22nd of August. Slight differences in the exact hours can occur because we should not forget that every fourth year has one more day than the others.

The Sun is the brightest object in the sky, the life-giving star of our Solar System, and also the most important celestial body in astrology. Also called Sol, the Sun is impersonated by the ancient Greek goddess Helios. Life on earth is literally empowered by the Sun’s energy, with it having an effect on all the biorhythms of live organisms. Astrologically, its influences are so important that most people only know the sign where their Sun is placed in, referring to it just as “their sign”.

The Sun rules our vitality and self-perception, making any house it is placed in the epicenter of our life. It has a strong masculine energy, and in the natal chart depicts our father. In addition, it can also show relations with the male gender or generally people who become a father figure for us. Moreover, the Sun is strongly connected with activity and self-confidence and rules our personality and ego. When it is located in Leo, the Sun is literally at home. It does not blend with energies of other planets, and a lot more clearly allows its own traits to flourish. The native is feeling as if being the bright center of the solar system, a king among his servants, a protagonist actor on the stage of life. It is quite natural for Leo people to have a heightened sense of ego, which of course also can lead to arrogance. Such a native tends to enjoy the pleasures of life a lot, having an active and sunny character.

The Sun and Leo are the natural rulers of the 5th house, so their effects in the native’s life are common with having the Sun in the fifth house. Leo sign people enjoy partying and flirting, and have a very playful nature. This, of course, can make them behave rather childish and have an adverse effect on their responsibilities. They like to make an impression, receive compliments and being admired by others. All these traits can make them have tendencies to achieve leadership. On the other hand, Leo people will prefer to be lazy just like Lions, instead of dedicating themselves to hard labor. They adore being kings but prefer if the king has nothing to do and can just enjoy his position.

The 5th house rules artistic expression, and Leo people can become wonderful performers in art. They are quite better in the artistic areas that have an audience, and thus they can excel as actors and singers. They are less good in detailed and practical forms of art, and they have a lot less motivation if they are not observed by an audience. Becoming known and admired act as a motivation for them, and they will frequently get involved in art exactly due to this cause and not for the sake of art itself. Naturally, Leo people may try their luck in other socially recognizable matters, such as politics. Their reputation is quite important, and they may even use it to brag in front of others. Of course, feeding their ego so much can create problems and some balance is always necessary. It is very easy to spot a Leo, as they usually are quite magnetic and from when they enter a room they like to draw attention to themselves.

Individuals with their natal Sun in Leo are rather confident and brave but will frequently risk a lot without thinking clearly. We should not forget that the 5th house also rules gambling and speculation, and thus transfers these traits to Leo people. Of course, this does not mean that they will be lucky in their gambles and risk-taking, but just makes them more prone to pushing their luck. Luck is mostly described by the planet of Jupiter in one’s chart, and so an indicator of luck while risking will be a positive aspect of Jupiter to the Sun (conjunction, trine, sextile).

The 5th house also rules children, and so Leo people will be quite fond of children, even if they are not their own. They like to play with them because this helps them awaken the child inside them. In addition, they will enjoy all type of recreational activities, including sports, but provided they are for fun and not competitive. For Leos, all types of games are important mainly for socializing, and not for competing. Of course, they like to win; Leos are feeling the natural Alphas and reassurance of being the first and best is always welcome.

The sign of Leo belongs to the element of fire, and so Leo types of people are strongly connected to it. They may adore fireplaces, candles and usually are in love with sunny days and the summer. The biggest dream, for Sun in Leo natives who live in cold places, may be living somewhere where it is warmer.

Leo Sun people tend to be more robust than others. Their strong ego makes them able to manage themselves, just as the Sun has its own light and does not need to reflect another one. They usually are very friendly, as long as someone does not hurt their ego. In such occasions, they have the tendency to retaliate, because they feel the core of their existence under threat. Do not poke a Lion with a stick when it is minding its own business. On the other hand, Leos are considered fair and just, and will not show aggression unless they are provoked.

The Sun in Leo is more likely to develop megalomania and to reach a Luciferian type of pride, even without having achieved something to deserve it. In case you are a Leo, try to control such emotions that automatically spring from your subconscious. You can use them as fuel for accomplishing things, and they usually are very useful – but do drive yourself to limits. You are a center of the universe, but not the only one. Also, roughly 8% of the population are Sun in Leo natives, you are not the only one!

Individuals that have Leo as their sign can become great leaders in their business surroundings. They will frequently prefer owning their own business, in order to be independent and not to have other people above them. In case they are working in a structured company, they will set goals to reach to its top. They are good in public relations, marketing and generally caring about the appearance of a product. In any case, they will prefer a career that can grant them public recognition and become a source of pride. That is why suitable jobs are those of a public nature, such as spokesmen, artists, performers, and athletes. Politics and governmental positions also suit them. As the Sun and Leo rule gold, they can be quite successful as jewelers, goldsmiths, pawn shop owners or even bankers. Female Leos can excel in jobs connected with children, such as teaching or working in kindergartens. In addition, Leo people can become great sports coaches.

People with their natal Sun in Leo are very passionate in their relationships. They will frequently perceive them as if they are movies, and live them intensely. They like having action and cannot stand being in relationships that make them bored.

A dark side of Leo is that they can become obsessed with their own selves and pay little attention to other people. They can be vain and melodramatic about themselves when in trouble as if other people do not face also problems. In addition, their domineering character may make them have flexible ethics when facing the possibility to succeed in something.

Leo people are somewhat more prone to heart problems than others because Leo rules this part of the body. Heart weaknesses are more frequent in individuals that have their natal Sun in Leo challenged by difficult aspects. The Sun and Leo also rule the chest, the spine, and the upper back. As we already mentioned, the Sun is responsible for one’s general vitality. These are also the body parts that can more easily suffer during difficult transits to the native’s natal Sun. Also, an afflicted Leo Sun will feel general fatigue. Combined with possible laziness and procrastination, fatigue may turn into a slow decaying body process. Leo people must get as much sunlight as possible, and meditate in the Sun can raise their energy level. Also, it is good for them to wear gold.

The Sun in our charts rules our own father. Thus, in case it is in Leo, it will give a Leo type of father. There is a high possibility that the father is occupied in one of the Leo type professions, mentioned above. He usually is a quite energetic person, who may have been a strong authoritative archetype. The young native regards him as a natural leader and is inspired to become like him. Especially if the native’s Sun is well aspected, he will perceive his father as a source of light, a person who is successful and recognized. His father can also frequently have his Sun in Leo. Alternatively, his father may have a lot of planets in Leo, or his Sun strong by placement and aspects. An adversely aspected Sun in Leo may indicate that the father is very egoistic, exercising authority in an ill-natured way (especially when Pluto, Mars or Saturn are aspecting it by square, opposition or conjunction).

We should always keep in our mind that no Leo is the same as another. The biggest mistake is to think that only by knowing our Sun sign, we can use astrology. In case you are a Leo, care to find out at which degree of Leo your Sun resides, to understand better which traits it will give you. By creating a natal chart, you can also find out in which house it resides.
Also, examine the aspects that the Sun forms with other planets in your natal chart. You will understand a lot more about the detailed role that the Sun has in your horoscope. After all, the Sun is the core of your existence, and definitely signifies an important part of our lifepath.

As usual, there is so much hatred for Leo. It is the sole reason I hate reading about my zodiac sign because most so called astrologers never mention Leo’s good attributes (Leos are very giving and fair and fight for the underdog) or anything that deviates from the stereotypical or the norm (Many Leos are actually shy and Leos don’t do things to draw attention to themselves; they are naturally magnetic). You astrologers never give Leo a break. Your “Mercury in Leo” description was just as bad as this one, and I don’t see any other descriptions that have as much negativity as Leo’s. Leo’s are very honest, up front people, so why you felt the need to pin lying on “mercury in Leo” is beyond me. While all signs are capable of lying, Air and Water sign mercurys are much more prone to lying. Leos seem to get a bad rap from most astrologers, but particularly from Virgo astrologers (those with heavy Virgo placements) and Scorpios. Though, I’ll admit that Pisces astrologers tend to be less bias and have a deeper understanding of Leos (they have a deeper understanding of most things) than other astrologers, who regurgitate the same unoriginal, over generalized, over simplified, distorted B.S.

I’m in agreement with you. Both my sun and ascendant are in Leo and I actually thought astrology was bunk because of this tendency. The truth is that there are mature Leos and immature ones, just like every sign. You can either be balanced or imbalanced…. but many interpret Leos in an unbalanced way. I for one am prideful in the sense that I do my very best when I choose to do anything. I take pride in who I am, what I do, and how I treat others. When under stress or not functioning at my best for whatever reason I can be bossy, and sometimes being a strong person I can unintentionally dominate weaker personalities. This is never out of arrogance. It is because I am feeling unwell and am having trouble tapping into my own source of strength or because I forget that others aren’t as energetic and can easily be silenced by those of us that are more demonstrative. I also do not “perform”. What you see is what you get. I do not necessarily enjoy being the center of attention in large groups and am actually an introvert. I am indeed self conscious when around people I am not close to, but do not attempt to gain attention. I hate flattery, and appreciate only heart felt compliments preferring to hear how something I said or did helped you vs how great I am, etc. I focus on ruling my own actions, emotions, thoughts, dreams, etc. and have no desire to rule others. Being a pretentious Prince who tries to prove himself is beneath a true King who knows his strengths and weaknesses and rules over himself. Few of these “astrologers” get the heart of the Lion, imo.

KingoverOne, I agree with you completely. I have Sun, Mercury and Ascendant in Leo, and I am far from the typical Leo description. I am very introverted and I don’t “try” to get attention. But where ever I go, people seem to stare at me and I become very self conscious. I even have social anxiety and will not leave the house if there are too many people around. I also hate non genuine compliments and would prefer to hear how much I am appreciated for helping someone (which I do often) or for making a difference in someone’s life. I am very philanthropic and humanitarian and the only thing I desire in return is to know that I made a difference in a person’s life. I’d rather not have the “spotlight” and so many people looking at me because I can actually be quite insecure, and because of that, I often wonder if people are looking at my “flaws” or trying to find fault with me.

I think your discription points out some important info about sun in leo but pins it down as a definite characteristic that all leos would have. It doesn’t work like this , You don’t automatically get subcounsios ideas of “luciferian pride” just because you were born under leo sign , you have a strong pride as a leo and wither you use that for good or evil is a different topic that relates to you being good or bad as a person and a lot of different reasons could contribute for that , Like your beliefes , Your environment , Your parents, Friends, mind set , goals, childhood, illnesses ,etc. And something a bit off topic but seriously, While a lot of the info that astrologers tell us about are true , What is the core of these info ? What makes you act like you actually know that this info is on point 100%? Why you and other astrologers don’t show us your true base of information and do you expect people to believe it without showing evidence? If you provide some evidence of astrology info being true it would be much more believeable . For example no astrologer ever mentioned that the effects of planets on people’s mind and body are coming from the planet’s gravity to earth and everythibg on it including humans, No one mentioned that there exists some sort of electro magnetic waves from planets, Now i know this without you telling me because Phrophet Muhammad peace be upon him told us Muslims to fast during the ‘white nights’ which refers to the moon being full shape because at times like these the effects on people’s emotions are strong, By fasting you reduce any urge to fight with other people because you eouldn’t have the… Read more »
