North Node in the 4th house

Having your North Node in the 4th house of the natal chart automatically also means that the South Node is located in the 10th house. This natal placement of the nodes indicates a heavy emphasis on matters concerning one’s home, family, roots, and tradition. In addition, the axis shows that your life lesson also involves your attitude towards your career and poses dilemmas between domestic life and work.

As the Lunar Nodes indicate Karmic debts and connections with previous lifetimes, the native who has the North Node in the 4th house must concentrate on the creation of family, his real estate property, and even agriculture during this incarnation. The North Node always shows what road we must follow in order to develop ourselves, and most of the times it is not the easiest one to choose.

Most people usually feel quite uncomfortable about marching towards fulfilling matters of the house where the North Node is located. This is because during previous lifetimes we have gathered a lot of experience concerning the South Node house matters. Indeed, we are a lot more acquainted with the roads we have already walked; yet life requires from us to abandon the safety of known patterns and face development through unknown areas.

For fulfilling our cause, the North Node strengthens everything it touches. Of course, a lot of fears can be present concerning the direction it indicates, as it is a terra incognita yet to be discovered. Yet, the North Node is quite beneficial when in conjunction with any planet present in the house, even if it is a “malefic”. Of course, a “malefic” adversely aspected will still remain a rather harsh lesson to learn. Spiritual growth will be eventually reached; even if it comes through difficulties, but generally expect the North Node of the Moon to bless you with an expansion of the positive traits of any planet nearby.

The North Node in the 4th house signifies a karmic need to concentrate on developing your own family. It acts as a benefic point, empowering the positive traits of the family you were born into and thus creating a rather healthy stereotype for you to follow. In addition, it tends to give a nurturing and good mother, offering a harmonious environment during childhood.

Also, a fourth house North Node can bring to the native various ancestral traditions or even land and property as a legacy. Many times, the native does not acknowledge their value when he is young, preferring to follow his South Node and career instead of developing his fourth house traits. The 4th/10th house Lunar Node axis brings the dilemmas “Career or family”, “Metropolis or Birthplace”, “Innovation or Tradition”. Indeed, as the native’s previous incarnations involved quite a lot of success in his work, he will feel a lot more comfortable with the idea of abandoning the cycle of family and tradition in order to progress on his own.

Yet, this is quite the wrong thing to do. His karmic path in this incarnation is dedicating to the small things that creating a family of his own can offer. The North Node in the 4th house requires him to abandon his thirst for success and fame, concentrating on developing a stable everyday reality which could even be connected with nature or agriculture. In many occasions, the native can even receive a ready and running traditional business connected with the fourth house. This could be a field, a traditional restaurant, a brewery, a food processing business or anything else that falls into this category. Even if this is not the native’s dream job, he should be wise enough to accept it and continue the ancestral tradition.

It may be rather hard to sacrifice your personal dreams in order to create a family, and the native may be afraid and unsure to make his steps towards such a way of life. Yet, the North Node in the 4th house is a great indicator for expanding your kin. If Jupiter or Venus are also present in the 4th house or conjunct the node, happiness through the family is guaranteed.

A fourth house North Node person may also be destined to get rich through selling parts of his land and property, or generally, get involved in the real estate business. Other things that can prove beneficial is involvement in cultural traditions of his birthplace, as he might also serve as a guardian for them. This can include folklore celebrations and feasts, historical memories and a lot more. In various occasions the survival of such customs and practices will largely depend on this individual; his dedication to their periodic revival determines whether their existence will continue or they will be devoured by the sands of time.

If you have such a placement, the decisions you should take concerning your life might be really hard as you will need to sacrifice ambitions that most people have. Yet, you may be rewarded in unique ways that a typical career-orientated person cannot even imagine. Do not worry though, the North Node’s presence in the 4th house will aid you a lot from the moment you consciously choose to work on 4th house matters.

When you activate your fourth house and balance the karmic axis between the two Nodes, you will be able to seek development in the tenth house related matters again. So, if public appreciation, fame, and career are important life dreams of yours, you may reach them in your elder years. By developing your fourth house, you are actually opening the 10th house gates too. Only then you will be able to use your South Node in a proper way, this time consciously.

I read this a couple years ago and tried following this. It’s not an accurate intrepation for my life. I’m finding through my research and direct experience, that it’s more in terms of resolving family issues so that you may create emotional stability and ultimately a career for yourself. This can indicate family issues, actually. There is no thriving in the outside world if you don’t know what’s holding you back from getting there, which tends to be ancestral issues from the past, which may or may not be conscious (4th house/moon). Going towards my family was the opposite of what I needed. I needed to get away (fast lol), stabilize myself emotionally, focus on building my own career (10th house) that provided me emotional fulfillment (4th house) and not sacrificing my inner self needs and settling on an unfulfilling career (based on societal status). Thus, releasing the need for outer recognition and developing inner recognition and comfort. The axis isn’t separate or either or. It seems to work together to create balance between the issues that reside inside that axis. Totally agree with the creation of your own, stable family unit, which is in progress.

Thank you for this insight. I have tried following the family path, not even tried. It’s almost like I was wired to do that. Each time I want to venture into a new path of career some family crisis ends up eating up my resources and I’m not even married nor do I have a kid. I think I agree more with your point of view than the original post. The moment I started focusing on my career somehow my north node 4th house issues started getting like less of a burden. The two energies must balance each other out

Thank you for your response. As someone whose creative yearning / path has been sabotaged by too many (starting with family) I was saddled with an abusive spouse which bred an abusive child which essentially ruined my life. The idea that you should wholly “submit” to domestic terror because your “North Node is in the 4th” and that your creative talents is oh so past life so ignore it is so ugly and dangerous. Half these “astrologers” are causing more harm than good with such bad “advice.

This is a great article! Thank you for sharing your knowledge on the north node. I have my north node in the 4th house in Pisces. I’m wondering if you can elaborate on this position? Thank you!
Sincerely, Jen
