South Node in the 12th house

Being born with the South Node in the 12th house indicates that the native should give less importance towards his inner worlds, fears, and phobias. Instead, he must concentrate on the health of his body, work and building harmonious relations with his co-workers, employers, and employees. In addition, a vital karmic request of his path is to learn to establish healthy daily routines, control his time and learn how to value and price his work and effort.

As the Lunar Nodes are always opposing each other, a 12th house South Node gives a 6th house North node. That placement has been excessively analyzed in the respective article.
A person with the South Node in the 12th house feels quite comfortable in being closed in his own fantasy worlds, which are echoing events from his previous incarnations. Through his mind, he can relive a lot of patterns that happened before. During previous lifes, he may have been imprisoned, institutionalized in an asylum or self-restricted in a monastery. People with this placement may experience a lot of fears in their lives, while also have tendencies of seeing nightmares during sleep. South Node in the 12th house grants occult abilities connected with the person’s past lives. His current body can channel powers the person had in previous incarnations, yet he is advised not to do it. The best decision is to stick to powers that the native develops during the current one, as he must forget and let go of those past experiences.

This placement indicates strong tendencies to self-sacrifice, while also of self-undoing. The native with the South Node in the 12th house may experience a shuttered self-confidence, especially in his young years. Curiously enough, he can feel comfortable with that and even not care to change it and learn to live with it. Of course, this is exactly what he must not do. This is why he is challenged by life to develop his personal system of self-assessment so that he starts valuing himself. The same thing happens with his work, as the 12th house South Node makes him under-price his efforts and products, or even giving them out for free. The lesson of the Nodes is to change these patterns because through such a process even his free gifts will have a higher value. Indeed, the native will end up understanding the price of what he creates, and when he will give that out gratis he will consciously be choosing the values of his gifts.

The South Node in the 12th house indicates strong abilities of ego-dissolution, meditation, and usage of other techniques that connect him with his own (and the collective) unconscious. The native probably spent a lot of time meditating during his previous life, an activity he should not repeat now. He should not even indulge in prolonged daydreaming or disruptive sleep patterns. Also, such people can even have magical powers, mostly uncontrolled ones. That can be particularly noticed in people whose 12th house also contains vital planets, powerful by sign or strongly aspected by other planets and points.

A 12th house South Node will create a strong ease towards expanding in the same direction, and these tendencies can easily reappear. The individual may seek isolation, pass a lot of time in himself or have a rather secretive life. Spending too much time in his thoughts can feed possible fears or create paranoid behaviors. A lot of past life memories can appear; on the other hand, they can be easily mixed with random information and fantasies, making it difficult to distinguish what is a real memory and what an artificial one. After all, the South Node placed here indicates that the previous cycle is closed, and so those memories do not even matter

More than anyone, a person with the South Node in the 12th house must concentrate on his current life. It is a new fresh start, and he must consciously purge what is keeping him behind. A 12th house South Node person may try to escape reality through alcohol, drugs or self-delusions, especially in the young of his life. This will only keep him far from his goals and isolate him from the outer world. If you have this placement, be very careful with all types of medicine, especially those that can have an effect on your psyche. Try to avoid any kind of prescription drugs that can affect your mind and alter your consciousness. Even if you are passing psychological difficulties, it is better to stay clean from substances. You can, of course, trust a doctor, but be sure that what he gives you is of an utter importance for your mental health and not prescribed “just to give you something”.

Curiously enough, benefic planets such as Venus or Jupiter in conjunction with the South Node in the 12th can manifest in such a great way that the native really will not want to change his views concerning group activities. These two planets, especially if well-aspected, will make it him very pleased being alone, while also give him a love of large animals. In addition, they block the existence of hidden enemies, reducing possible 12th house dangers. On the other hand, he still must leave the house’s matters behind, and concentrate on developing the opposite one. It takes a lot of courage to relinquish a comfortable situation, but it is definitely worth for personal progress.

We should hereby note that the South Node is debilitating the power of any planet that it conjuncts, and this can even be quite helpful. Malefic planets are still remaining tough to bear, yet they are losing quite a lot of their potency. Of course, benefic planets are also operating less powerfully. Imagine the South Node as a gravitational hole, sucking energy from the nearby planets- no matter what type. The South Node is the entropy, leading the system of your own self towards stability and eventually decay. On the other hand, pursuing the path that your North Node dictates is literally allowing fresh energy flow to your system, negative entropy that protects your soul from getting stuck in stability (even if it’s the type that you enjoy).
Do not forget that by fulfilling the life lessons that the North Node dictates, one can safely activate his South Node house again. If you want to become a monk in a monastery or dissolve forever in daydreaming, you can. But to do it safely, learn first of all to care about your body and health, work a lot and establish your daily routines.

Learn to leave back your South Node and embrace the lessons that the opposite house has to offer. Yes, you will leave quite a lot of things behind. But it is the only way to make yourself rise as a conscious human being, a person who holds his fate in his own hands.

You said…”The native probably spent a lot of time meditating during his previous life, an activity he should not repeat now” – This isn’t entirely correct. The native can meditate – meditation is a solid practice…one must be careful to balance meditation with healthy work and present moment routines. No one entirely leaves their south node tendencies – nor should that be a goal! We’re looking for the north node energies to help the native integrate a more balanced, centered approach towards life.
