The Moon: Rulership, Exaltation, Detriment and Fall

The Moon is the second brightest object in the sky, and also the second most important celestial body in astrology. Also called Luna, the Moon is impersonated by the ancient Greek goddess Selene. The closeness of the Moon to the Earth has a very strong effect on the macrocosm, while astrologically it is connected with our emotions and feelings. After that, the waning phase starts, and it gradually passes from being a waning gibbous to a third quarter, and then from a waning crescent to a New Moon again.

The passage of the Moon through any house is so quick that any effects are temporary and are mostly responsible for mood swings and emotions that develop concerning the house’s matters. A transit to any planet present in the house has effects that last maximum for some hours. Thus, the Moon’s transits may play a rather important role in our daily reality, but do not even leave temporary effects after they end. Yet, they are not to be considered weak at all; in fact, we can subjectively experience them as uncontrolled feelings. We should also notice here that the Moon can influence difficult mental situations such as lunacy, hysteria or even mass phenomena. Doctors are many times noticing a sudden statistic rise in patients that get in hospitals during Full Moon days, especially of hypochondriacs.

A strong Moon by placement can make even men expel a lot of feminine energy, being a lot more emotional and fragile than the general stereotype of the man. It can even give female characteristics, attitudes, and behaviors, without having any apparent influence on the man’s sexuality though. Yet, the Moon plays a strong role in the relations between people. Romance and affection, care and tenderness are governed by the silver satellite. Difficult aspects to the Moon may indicate an oversensitive character, uncontrolled emotions and reacting without logic.
Due to the Moon’s connection with the 4th house, it governs one’s home and family, as well as everything from our surroundings that we consider being our private space and the foundation of our everyday reality.

As a planetary force, the Moon requires from us to develop our sensitive parts of the psyche, feel and take care of others. Whoever is more receptive to the planet’s energy will eventually have larger benefits from it, even though the gifts of the Moon do not last long.
